English is the official language. There are over 73 tribal dialects of which the main languages are Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga, Luvale, Lozi, Mambwe and Tumbuka.

CURRENCY


The currency of the country is Kwacha. It is best to take travellers cheques, US dollars, British Pounds or South African rands when making payments.

National Park and River Usage fees are payable in US Dollar currency only and vary from USD5-USD20 depending on the activity clients take part in.

220volts, 50Hz. Plugs are 3-pin square.

Compulsory Vaccinations: None
Recommended Vaccinations: Hepatitus A, meningitis and Tetanus
Precautions: Malaria prophylaxis

American (USA) Nationals:
USA nationals travelling as tourists or business visitors shall be issued with multiple entry valid for 3 years at a fee of R1060.00

American students shall be issued with Multiple entry visas for the whole period of their studies in Zambia.

British Nationals:
British nationals require visas including children under or above 16 years.

•    Single Entry- R1180.00
•    Multiple Entry-R3400.00

Tourist Visas
Most persons who have confirmed booking/reservation through tour operators in conjunction with Zambian registered tour operators shall require a visa for Zambia but the fees will be waived. Please check with Zambian High commission.

Day Trippers:
A Tourist travelling to Zambia sight-seeing for less than 24 hours will be issued a visa for the hours of say at USD10.00.

Note: To enter Zambia by car, R90 for insurance & R15 for road tax is to be paid (subject to change). If entering by car, be sure to have the RED HAZARD TRIANGLES, as there are spot checks & fines given. Ensure all vehicle papers are in the car.

REQUIREMENTS: (For those needing visas):
•    2 fully completed application forms (downloaded off website www.zambiapretoria.net)
•    2 passport size photos (the passengers signature is to be on the back of each & are to be stapled, one on each form)
•    Invitation letter from host in Zambia / Travel Itinerary from Operator
•    Copy of return air ticket
•    Passport (valid for a minimum of 6 months & must have blank pages)


Validity:
Single entry visa valid for 3 months and 6 months for multiple visas. Transit visas are valid for 7 days only. Business visa: Valid for 30 days within one year.

Processing time: 3-5 Working days
